Teams from across the organization worked to align our key internal results for the year with the NSC mission and strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The Council returned to pre-pandemic staffing levels this year, and across the board, we saw increased engagement as we focused on internal growth, mission impact and robust onboarding for new colleagues.<\/p>\n<h4>Our Finances<\/h4>\n<p>Throughout 2022, NSC saw its finances rebound strongly following the headwinds of COVID-19. Nearing pre-pandemic levels, NSC revenues \u2013 supported by donors, government grants and membership dues \u2013 have demonstrated a sense of confidence in the Council\u2019s work and a commitment to safety made more relevant following the lessons of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>As a mission-driven nonprofit organization, revenue from our programs, services and philanthropic donations fuel our advocacy work so we can help people live their fullest lives. These funds support research to identify leading causes of fatalities, education to increase awareness and minimize risks, and advocacy to ensure the adoption of safety and incident prevention measures.<\/p>\n<h4>From the Workplace to Anyplace<\/h4>\n<p>Workplace fatality rates have dramatically decreased since 1928, but improvement in the last decade has mostly stalled. More than 4,400 workers still died from preventable incidents in 2021 and medically consulted injuries totaled more than 4.2 million. NSC enables employers of all sizes to create a culture of safety that goes beyond compliance because compromising safety should never be part of getting the job done.<\/p>\n<p>Every family, individual and business in this country relies on our nation\u2019s roadways to get to their destination safely. Yet we lost more than 46,000 people on our roads in 2022.
