In 2024, we made an impact on roadway safety

  • Extended our partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Road to Zero Community Traffic Safety Grant Program for an additional two years and $2 million in grants
  • Launched the second National Teen Driver Safety Week campaign in partnership with Honda, reaching over 73,000 individuals and accumulating over 90 million impressions on social media
  • Supported key roadway safety legislation in multiple states, including graduated driver licensing in NJ, lower blood alcohol limits in WA and CT, and preservation of motorcycle helmet laws in LA
  • Successfully negotiated a two-year extension for the State Courts Against Road Rage (SCARR) program, which educates young drivers charged with serious motor vehicle violations
  • Achieved more than 250,000 car seat checks through the National Digital Car Seat Check Form, contributing to changes in outreach, education and car seat manufacturing designs
  • Completed a new census data overlay analysis, resulting in a new public Car Seat Coverage Map, thanks to the support of AAA MWG. This interactive map helps with the identification of where CPS services are offered and where gaps exist throughout the U.S., which will help NSC build new sustainable CPS programs in communities lacking these services
  • Spotlighted survivor advocates who lost loved ones to distracted driving crashes during Distracted Driving Awareness Month, receiving over 160,000 impressions, 8,000 engagements and 451 media mentions with coverage from Forbes and Occupational Health & Safety
  • Enhanced the user experience for Check To Protect, generously funded by BMW, Ford, GM, Nissan, Stellantis, Toyota and Volvo, by offering a full suite of unique search options, including VIN and license plate, resulting in over 450,000 vehicle recall checks
  • Aided the Washington State Department of Licensing in developing language for an agency-sponsored bill regarding driver’s license suspension, allowing drivers to avoid license suspension by taking an NSC course
  • Celebrated the 25th anniversary of the National Child Passenger Safety Board, which maintains the quality and integrity of the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Training curriculum
  • Became the sole provider of lessons for the IL Probationary License Program and successfully negotiated a virtual learning option, allowing drivers with a probationary license to receive flexible and valuable education
  • Provided the Massachusetts Department of Labor with three new driver training courses
  • Facilitated the New Work and Family Mobility Act partnership with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles to an amendment for Portuguese and Spanish translation of the driver retraining program to expand accessibility
  • Provided over 2,300 drivers with comprehensive training sessions to foster safer driving practices, mitigate potential risks for employers and reduced the overall costs of crashes through the Our Driving Concern program
  • Launched free virtual training for DriveitHOME with General Motors that teaches parents and caregivers about teen driver risks and provides solutions to keep new drivers safe
  • Created Spanish educational resources for DriveitHOME in partnership with General Motors, including Pointers for Parents, the New Driver Deal and videos — all available online and on the mobile app
  • Released Massive Hazards: How Bigger, Heavier Light Trucks Endanger Lives on American Roads report through the Road to Zero Coalition to educate roadway users and safety advocates about specific dangers relating to SUVs, pickup trucks and vans
  • Promoted Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA), at conferences in New York and Florida
  • Established the Safety Connection program, supported by Buckle Up for Life and Evenflo, increasing monthly virtual car seat education appointments from five to 29
  • Launched the On the GO! program, delivering critical child passenger safety resources and mentorship to underserved communities in the U.S.
  • Streamlined pediatric vehicular heatstroke resources, ensuring that national and state task forces can easily access critical resources for essential public safety initiatives
  • Provided Children in Hot Cars online lessons, resulting in over 2,400 completions
  • Fully integrated the National Digital Car Seat Check Form into the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Training curriculum, making it available to over 40,000 child passenger safety technicians
  • Published “School bus electrification – A new frontier in bus driver safety and health” in the Journal of Transport & Health, examining the impact on driver safety and health, sponsored by First Student
  • Supported companies that prioritize road safety for their employees and communities through the Our Driving Concern Texas Employer Traffic Safety Awards program
  • Reached over 2,500 participants through 10 Road to Zero webinars
  • Convened with 170 roadway safety advocates from 36 states at Capitol Hill for meetings with 120 Congressional offices and secured U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s participation at the Road to Zero annual meeting
  • Organized a press conference at House Triangle with victim advocate organizations and seven Members of Congress while partnering with Safety and Advocacy for Empowerment and Sen. Fetterman (D-PA) on a reception at the Capitol Visitor Center
  • Connected to over 40,000 participants through the National Child Passenger Safety Board’s webinar series
  • Helped advance the State of MD ignition interlock law through testimony, strategic convening and coordination with allies
  • Presented the Safety Connection program to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association regional staff to fortify new relationships
  • Renewed relationship with the State of MA as the provider of driver retraining services, helping drivers with incident histories incorporate lasting safety measures
  • Collaborated with OSHA on the topic of distracted driving and organized a webinar, featuring an expert panel in partnership with the Road to Zero coalition
  • Launched the Midwest Tribal Passenger Safety Coalition and increased partnerships with Native American tribal communities by offering Child Passenger Safety Technician and mobility safety resources
