More than 40,000 people lose their lives in vehicle crashes each year, and each of these deaths is preventable. We focus on doubling down on what works, advancing technology and creating a roadway safety culture to save lives.
Unveiled a broad Partners for Automated Vehicle Education coalition (PAVE) at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to inform the public about automated vehicles and their potential; coalition partners include AAA, American Public Transportation Association, Audi of America, Aurora, Consumer Technology Association, Cruise Automation, Daimler, INRIX, Intel, Mobileye, Munich RE, National Council on Aging, National Federation of the Blind, NVIDIA, SAE International, Securing America’s Future Energy, Toyota, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Volkswagen, Voyage, Waymo and Zoox
Engaged with more than 8,500 people during public outreach events for the Check to Protect recall campaign by visiting military bases, NASCAR races, minor league baseball games and other community events

Secured inclusion of language supporting the Road to Zero Coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate FY20 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill
Supported legislative efforts to lower the legal BAC to from .08 to .05 in California, New York, Michigan and Oregon
Kicked off Distracted Driving Awareness Month in partnership with the Emergency Responder Safety Institute by sharing findings from a public opinion poll on distracted driving around first responders and holding a press event including Miami Fire Department and Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association
Developed and released in partnership with AAA, Consumer Reports and J.D. Power new nomenclature for advanced driver assistance technologies
Recognized Randall E. Beaty with the 2019 Robert F. Borkenstein Award for his significant contributions to the field of alcohol testing, resulting in safer roads and workplaces
